I stopped by Restaurant Bravo in Pedersgata in Stavanger on a sunny, warm Friday afternoon in September. A sudden heatwave hit Stavanger and this gave me and my friend the opportunity to sit outside at Bravo and enjoy some food and a cold beer together. Bravo is one of our favorite restaurants in Stavanger these days and it did not disappoint this time either! The menu is still focused on sharing dishes where you will need 2-3 to be satisfied.
I started out with a favorite of mine: ricotta from Osteverkstedet on toast and topped with salty anchovies and zest of lemon. I love the combination of the crunchy toast, salt of the anchovies and the fresh lemon taste with the mild cheese. My friend enjoyed ling in browned butter while I had ling marinated in sea buckthorn (tindved) which makes it sort of a ceviche but not quite. This was also great, and I love the mild fish together with the sourness of the sea buckthorn. If you have not tasted sea buckthorn at all, be sure to stop by Siddis gelato and try the sorbet if available. While my friend enjoyed the warm pork neck dish, I had the steak tartare with tarragon mayo and some crunchy crumbs. Topped with edible flowers, this was a feast for the eyes and palate.
As it was still early and I was still in the mood for a bit more, I ordered pork rillettes. This is a sort of mash of pork meat and fat that might not sound good, but it is quite delicious! This was served with marinated cherries, topped with parmesan and with crunchy toast on the side. What can I say? Life is very good when you can sit outside and enjoy good food with a friend and have a cold beer from Lervig brewery . Thanks for another delicious dinner Bravo. If you haven’t been to this gem in Pedersgata yet, be sure to head there soon!
Pros:
- comfort food that tastes great
- to be able to sit outside in warm weather
- smaller sharing platters on the menu
Cons:
- I would like to see more lager beer options
