Lunch break at IDDIS Café & Brasserie in Old Stavanger

We stopped by IDDIS Café & Brasserie for lunch on a Sunday in September. This café is in the IDDIS museum – and this again is located in the middle of Gamle Stavanger (old Stavanger). This means that you get the pleasure of taking a walk through this picturesque neighborhood on your way to enjoy a meal! IDDIS Café & Brasserie is primarily a lunch place (they close at 4 pm) and the menu is focused on sandwiches, some warm dishes and cakes. Many of the sandwiches on the menu are named with Stavanger words and phrases which is a fun way to link the café to the city. The name is also a link to the city as this was the name of labels on fish cans back in the days.

We stopped by on a rainy day which was a bit of a shame as they do have a great outdoor area. We settled for a table inside and there were not that many guests this afternoon. I decided to have something warm and ordered the onion soup. The soup was served after just a few minutes and it was piping hot, topped with a slice of bread and toasted bread on the side. The soup itself was actually very good with a rich taste and lots of onion – but as a cheese lover, I would have enjoyed having the bread in the soup covered with some flavorful, gratinated cheese!

All in all, a good place to stop by for lunch or for a piece of cake and coffee. And when the weather cooperates in the summertime, the outdoor area is great for relaxing with a glass of wine.

Pros:

- in the middle of charming Old Stavanger

- outdoor seating

- the wine list is decent

Cons:

- only a lunch place

- limited menu
