On a rainy Sunday at noon, I stopped by Kafe Oransjeriet to enjoy coffee and lunch. The opening has been in the making for quite some time as they have had pop-up events at places like RY , Colonialen Storhaug, Helmer te og kaffe etc. but in September they finally opened in Oransjeriet just by Lervigtunet Park (see this Google map).
The door opens at 7.30 am daily (to 6 pm) and they have breakfast, salads, snack, warm dishes and some cakes – and it is all plant based. There are not many vegan places in Stavanger so I imagine that this will be a place that will be popular for vegans and vegetarians. The entrance is inviting with lots of green plants and a glass façade, and this also allows for lots of light to flow into the place. They have kept some old elements in the building (like beams) and refurbished the rest with a modern, Nordic twist. There were lots of tables available when we stopped by, but it filled up fast after noon!
I ordered the kale Caesar salad and a juice, and this was served quite fast. The fennel fix juice (with fennel, cucumber, apple and lime) was refreshing and delicious. The salad contained tempeh (cooked soybeans), croutons, baked chickpeas and this was a great combination but a touch more Caesar dressing would have been welcome. It was topped with some flower petals, and I could swear I picked up the scent of Parmesan cheese, but I guess my mind was playing tricks with me. The double cappuccino was served in a glass which is not that practical, but my guest enjoyed the cappuccino! I also tasted the carrot cake, and it looked a bit messy but was also very good.
Thanks for a great lunch Kafé Oransjeriet. The place looks fabulous and we enjoyed the lunch and coffee. I look forward to stopping by again to try out more of the menu.
Pros:
- plant based (if that is your thing)
- opens early
Cons:
- plant based (if you have an issue with that)
