We got a sneak peek of what Ouch burger can offer during Gladmat and now they are officially opening in Løkkeveien 9 (the old gas station in St. Olav). Note that it is a soft opening so far and the official opening date is October 4th 2024. If you have followed this blog for some time, you will also remember that I went to a ouch burger tasting event earlier this year.
Owner Ole Dysjaland and manager Razik Eiranji emphasize that Ouch Burger is a fast food concept – but they want it to be good quality fast food! The interior is green (like the logo) and the wooden furniture looks modern. You can order on screens, at the cashier or online and it seems like there will also be a setup for foodora delivery. Once you are done eating, you clear the table and there is a place to wash your hands. So in many ways, I guess this is more or less like McDonalds or Burger King, but I think (and hope) that there is more focus on the quality of the ingredients at Ouch.
The menu is not very extensive and the main focus is of course smash burgers made with good meat from Prima Jæren that is ground inhouse and on buns from locally bakery Kanelsnurren. A smash burger means that the meat is squeezed into a hot pan, and you get a Maillard reaction to give that charred appearance that also brings out a lot of meat flavor! And the result is a juicy and tasty burger, and the Signature burger is just delicious.
The Signature burger is topped with cheese, onion, secret sauce and some pickles that are a bit sweet and just a bit spicy and this works amazingly well on the burger. Apart from that they have regular fries on the menu, dips, milkshakes and soft serve ice cream. A fun sign in the restaurant says “This isn’t A twelve course meal at a fancy restaurant, Love at first sight” etc – it is Just Better Burgers. And that is the whole idea here – a fast food place that will provide you with a great burger when you crave this. Good luck with the opening Ouch!
Pros: - juicy, tasty smash burger - food is served fast
Cons: - hmm, let me think about it!
