Celebrating the re-opening of Norway at ANGR

Updated: Jun 26

Note that ANGR has closed down permanently!

Good things can not be repeated too often it is said! On the actual reopening day of Norway after covid-19, we went to ANGR once again! If you are not familiar with this place, you can check the other reviews that I have posted earlier. The concept is the same as before: set menu (as in e.g Restaurant SÖL) and you can choose wine pairing and there is a focus on natural wine. We started with delicious, warm and completely fresh sourdough bread with butter made by Stavanger Ysteri and soon we got beetroot tartar topped with some yogurt and flowers. It was a great dish but since we had had some beets already that day, we were kinda done with beets for the day. We got a Mother Rock PetNat from Swartland in South Africa and that was funky indeed. We went on to grilled corn and again it was a beautiful dish but a bit simple to the honest.

But the next dish was far more exciting : clipfish ice cream (yes, ice cream with clipfish flavor) served with some potato and broccolini. This was fascinating and it's exciting when you get such untraditional combinations of flavors. It worked great with the ice cream along with hot potatoes! This was again served with wine from South Africa - this time is a bit atypical Chardonnay from JH Meyer. The main course was pork neck with cabbage, among other things. Unfortunately, the pork neck was not quite as tender as it could have been, but it was good with an Italian red wine (Fonterenza Pettirosso). We rounded off with dessert with apple and Crème fraîche before we ran out into the night to see Stavanger celebrate the reopening with fireworks. Thanks for the food ANGR.
