Burger with a view at Salon du Nord

Salon du Nord is located in Hotel Victoria in downtown Stavanger and got a makeover a couple of years back that made it into a stylish cocktail and lunch place. We stopped by on a Saturday in June and the Stavanger weather was not cooperating (as usual) but we decided to sit outside anyway as it was actually warm. The outdoor patio is perfect for looking at life passing by at the harbor of Stavanger (or Skagenkaien as we call it). The menu is not extensive, but you can get classic lunch dishes such as Croque Monsieur, burger, Caesars salad, moules frites etc. We decided to go for a burger this afternoon!

The menu is stylishly decorated and there is a lot of focus on the cocktails, and they are named after areas in Stavanger and towns around Norway. It took about 30 minutes for us to get our food and the burger was served with ketchup, mayo and French fries. It was great to see defined slices of vegetables on the burger along with bacon and cheese. The burger was a bit too compact for my liking, and I would have enjoyed it medium and not well done. The portion of ketchup was a bit small, but I got some more when I asked the staff. There are a few options for beer (draft and bottle) but no local beer as far as I can tell.

All in all, a stylish and beautiful place that is perfect for lunch outside – when weather permits! The burger is probably not the best one in town, but the great location and patio makes up for this. Thanks for having us, Salon du Nord!

Pros:

- great location

- perfect outdoor location for a sunny afternoon drink

- stylish cocktail bar

Cons:

- You can probably get better burgers elsewhere

- wine knowledge could be better
