Best food moments in Stavanger in 2024!

Writer's picture: Gard KarlsenGard Karlsen

We don’t operate with scores and we don’t announce “the best restaurants” as we know taste and preferences varies a lot. But what we would like to do is to share our favorite food moments from 2024 with all of you!

Indian restaurants can be very predictable but Mogul India has taken it to the next level with a tasting menu. The highlight for us when we went there in January was a softshell crab on Jhalmuri (puffed rice salad) but there were also many other good dishes on the tasting menu! You can check out the review from our previous visit here!

Another place that is innovative is the South Indian restaurant Spisoh .They usually serve great parotta, mouthwatering curries, fluffy biriyani but they will get a mention here as we enjoyed a Sedya lunch with them in 2024. Here we got all the ingredients served on a banana leaf and could enjoying eating this with our hands. You can read about this Sedya lunch at Spisoh here.

Gladmat organized food & fun with guest chefs at various restaurant across Stavanger and we had an amazing lobster, amazing bread and some great wines at Brasserie Pigalle with chef Carito Lourenço from Restaurante Fierro in Valencia! Read about our visit to Pigalle here!

New places opened as well and Kansui has really brought ramen to Stavanger! Go here for a rich and flavorful bowl of ramen! It is a basic place and the main thing here in ramen - and beer. We loved the rich broth in the big bowls of ramen. Read about our Kansui experience here.

We stopped by one of our favorite Italian restaurants Casa Gio several times in 2024 and the focus is still pasta, risotto etc. The wine selection is getting better which is great to see! Our favorite dish was a porcini risotto with beef cheeks that was quite a comfort meal. Read about our Casa Gio visit here!

Some places is worth mentioning both because of special dishes – and for being consistently great! One of these places are Bravo that can offer small dishes to share that are excellent and with great service. Their steak tartare is a fest for the eyes and palate. I would also highly recommend getting the toast with ricotta, anchovies and lemon zest! Read more details about our Bravo visit here.

We joined a group to Hermetikken Restaurant and this has gone from a lovely small wine bar to an amazing fine dining restaurant with a Michelin star!. Chef Stuart Barber offered some amazing dishes in a laidback atmosphere and with great wine pairing by Knut-Espen Misje! This place is highly recommended indeed! We have been to Restaurant SÖL many times and this year they had a collab with Spontan Vinbar from Trondheim. I think this was a match made in heaven as many of the dishes were truly mouthwatering. But it was the langoustine in turbot sauce that stood out and was a dish that we were savoring! Read more about this visit here.

We first of all focus on the positive experiences but I was a bit annoyed when there were issues with ordering wine at Spiseriet konserthuset during our anniversary dinner there. But their braised pork jowl on a mash was a delicious comfort food dish that I wanted to eat slowly to enjoy the flavors as long as possible. Read about our Spiseriet dinner here.

Talking about comfort food – the Asian style dick confit on the new Ilo Stavanger was also a real treat! This is a cozy small place in the K8 building. When we went there we had great service, the music playlist was very enjoyable and there was just a great vibe! Read about our Ilo visit here.

And last but not least – we were fortunate to visit RE-NAA once again. After they got three Michelin stars, we were asked if we wanted to join a group to go there during Gladmat. Due to some misunderstanding, we were served food at the top suite at Eilert Smith hotel and this was a great experience. The food was outstanding as always and the service great. Highly recommended! Read about our RE-NAA evening here.

Hounarable mentions goes to Bellies for serving up outstanding plant based food in a lively atmosphere, to Monella for introducing pizza fritta to Stavanger and to Panzanella Pizzeria for great pizza in a newly opened location in Pedersgata!

Thank you 2024! And thank you to all the people in all the restaurants that are involved to create these food memories! We truly appreciate it!
