Hermetikken Vinbar is the latest addition to the wine/food scene in Stavanger. Started by the team from Norvald Vinbar (wine mentors Silje and Knut) and located in what used to be the lab for the canning industry (Hermetikklaboratoriet), the name seems logical. It is located right next to Matmagasinet and Lervig local – creating a vibrant area right next to the park at Ledaal. We went there on a Saturday night and were met by sommelier Mikela. The bar is both small and modern and features an open kitchen where the chef makes snack bites and prepares a 3-course menu for the guests. The interior is fancy with e.g sheepskin armchairs from Swedish Fogia but local furniture makers have also been involved.
The wine menu is extensive, and luckily you can get quite a bit by the glass but the selection is of course best if you buy bottles. We enjoyed a beautiful fried polenta with parmesan on a garlic mayo, Kalix Löjrom on a delicious celeriac cream served chicharon (crispy pork) to dip, some fresh bread delivered by Molinå bakery , pan fried sweetbread on a scrumptious black garlic mayo and a mouthwatering sea crayfish served with a cream with hints of citrus.
Hermetikken Vinbar is modern yet cozy. With the open kitchen you almost get the feeling that you are visiting a friends house and he is cooking and serving up some snack for you. The service was great and there is a relaxed atmosphere. This is the place to stop by if you enjoy good wine.
