Asian fusion at Miyako Sushi & wok

I stopped by Miyako in Pedersgata with a friend on a weekday in July 2024 and it was great to see that the place was full of other guests. Every time I walk past, this seems to be the case and it is of course great to see that the restaurant is thriving. The interior and atmosphere at Miyako are quite inviting with nice furniture and lights coming in from large windows. It seems like it is also a popular place for takeout and the pickup spot is separated from the restaurant which seems to be a good solution.

The name is Miyako sushi & wok and the concept is Asian fusion. Their menu is quite large and it reminds me a bit about Sumo. Menu includes starters like tempura, gyoza and spring rolls and mains includes sushi, sashimi and hot rolls, curries (Chinese and Thai) and some noodle dishes.

We started honey sesame wings resembling Korean style hot wings and vegetable tempura topped with sauce. The tempura was freshly made and included vegetables like broccoli, bell pepper and cauliflower if I’m not mistaken. I moved on to a Kung Pao with chicken and this was served with plain rice. The Kung Pao dish was sweet, savory and spicy (you can choose how spicy you want it) and I enjoyed the combination of chicken, bell pepper, onion and peanuts in this stir-fry dish. It is good to see that you can choose your preferred protein in many of the dishes and the selection seems to be chicken, beef, scampi and tofu. It would have been great with an ice-cold beer together with my Kung Pao dish but note that this restaurant does not serve alcohol. My friend enjoyed his Yaki Udon noodles, but it was a bit strange seeing it was served with chopsticks sticking out of the food. I don’t think that would have happened if this was a Chinese restaurant as I think it indicates bad luck.

All in all, we had a tasty meal and the service at the restaurant was good. I'm a bit skeptical to large menus that tries to cover too many cuisines but I it makes it ideal for groups as everyone can find something that they like. I would not mind going back here for a midweek madness meal!

Pros: - you can choose between chicken, beef, scampi or tofu in many of dishes - you can enjoy the food in the restaurant – or get takeaway - large menu

Cons: - no alcohol is served
